One of the perks of our job is getting to step inside some truly beautiful houses. The sort of properties you usually see on Pinterest boards, where architecture, furnishing and design all kind of fuse together, and guests just stand in the foyer with their jaws hanging open.

Social / Grilling the ultimate toastie with Maker & Monger and Peter Bouchier

As part of our re-brand from A/P Shutter & Blinds and Shades in Hawthorn to SHADES, we decided to send out Christmas hams to all our loyal customers. We figured 2020 wasn’t much fun for anyone, and receiving a giant Christmas ham in the mail, courtesy of Toorak’s famous Peter Bouchier, would put a smile on a few faces out there. We also wanted to show-off our spiffy new name and branding.

When the Victorian government announced the new COVID-safe outdoor dining precincts in the CBD, local hospitality businesses breathed a sigh of relief. But thoughts quickly turned to logistics. Where were all these people going to sit? How would traffic be affected? And how would we keep people safe from wind, rain and Melbourne’s classic 28 seasons in one day?

Shades in Hawthorn has always been a family business, and it’s hard to say goodbye to your family. We didn’t want to sacrifice what made both companies special. But in the end, we decided it was time to bring the two businesses together under one name, and one brand: SHADES.
